Health & Wellness Classes

Introduction to Living with Diabetes

Living with Diabetes is a comprehensive program on diabetes self management comprised of four, 2-hour classes. People who are newly diagnosed with diabetes are encouraged to attend all four classes. Those with a longer history of diabetes can utilize the program to refresh or fine-tune their diabetes self management skills in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, medication or goal setting and can sign up for appropriate classes.

This introductory class answers the question, “What is diabetes?” You will have the opportunity to share your feelings with other people who have diabetes and learn how they cope with everyday issues. In addition, you will learn about monitoring your blood glucose and the symptoms, treatment and prevention of hypo– and hyperglycemia. Finally, you will create a personal goal to change your behavior regarding your blood glucose monitoring.

A referral from your clinician is required for you to participate in this class. If you are interested in attending, please let your clinician know and you will be referred.
